Every tear needs a space to be named. 〰️

BURMESE ARTIST CHUU WAI TALKED ABOUT WORKING WITH US ON this WALL4MYANMAR
A year after the coup in Myanmar, many Burmese felt forgotten by the world. Almost a million people have been displaced since then. Many of them carry terrifying images and sad memories with them.
Together with over 160 people from the Burmese community in Switzerland and worldwide, we created a 16×19 meters wall mural for Myanmar between March and April. The mural is an interplay of messages and sketches that were sent to the collective via email, WhatsApp or Instagram and a grieving woman with the 3-finger gesture -the symbol for human rights, democracy and freedom.
With the picture, we make room for the pain and through the joint creation and the opportunity to create such a picture in Zurich, we send a strong sign of hope and solidarity: "You are not alone!"
To underline this sign of solidarity and to stand up for democracy and freedom, we from Cup of Color and our Burmese friends cordially invite you to the opening of the mural with small delicacies from Myanmar.
Express your pain, lost and prayers for your home (Myanmar) with adrawing or sentence, we will paint it for you on the wall in Zurich.
GOAL
The mural voices out for the Myanmar community in Switzerland and worldwide to express the suffering and hope under the unstable situation and crisis since Feb 2021. We create a space for artists and people of Myanmar to put their fee- lings into words and images, helping them to process their traumatic experiences as well as to find ways for them to communicate it with the outside world.
Collaboration: Beside the mural, Giulia Busetti and Dr. Valentina Locatelli will host an event “Stand for Democracy“, a photography exhibition of the artist and human rights activist Marcelo Brodsky (b. 1954, Buenos Aires, Argentina). They are presented in dialogue with video works and a performance by a new generation of Burmese artists and whose work reveal elements of Myanmar’s social, political, and cultural narrative. We have invited Chuu Wai Nyein, artist from Myanmar to join our community wall mural team.
Why #Wall4Myanmar?
In 2021 spring during the #CivilDisobedienceMovement in #Myanmar, we got a request from @raise3fingers to paint a wall for the people who are suffering in despair and fear under repression, she said: “Every single action, image or message for Myanmar will give us the strength and hope to live one more day." Then in the summer we created a long mural on a public legal wall in Switzerland. (Watch the film by our bio link), as the wall will be painted over from time to time, we started searching for another wall that can last longer. Burmese people were shaped by witnessing and experiencing the violence and fear from coup, which leave them scars, traumas and unresolved issues. UN said, almost half a million people are displaced since last year from Myanmar.
We believe that one way to cope with our history is to speak out our pain. We give name and space for our tears. That’s why we came up with the idea to create a Wailing Wall for people to express their feelings. Make the long story short, many obstacles and random challenges didn’t hinder us to keep asking and trying to get all the documents and permissions to make this wall happening. And finally a week before we started we got it all we need.
{What do we need?}
We need the voice of you / or your friend from Myanmar! Send us an image or a sentence to express the sufferings, pain, lost, prayers or hopes. Write us if you have any questions.
SUBMISSION CLOSED
